 Excellent Speaker System - The BEST Quality and ValueOct 14, 2009
Amazing speaker system. Installation was easy and I am incredibly satisfied with the speakers so far.
These speakers sound great and are by far the best deal you can get with THX certified 500 watt 5.1 surround sound speakers.
My only complaint is that the system does not include any optical (Toslink) or mini Toslink cables for use with many laptops and desktops that do not have S/PDIF outputs. Most Macs and laptops have either optical or mini optical outputs so the inclusion of this cable would be a nice addition for such users.

I ordered this on August 17th and received it on the 24th. The setup was fairly easy and took about 10 minutes to connect the cables and find a proper place for everything around my desk. The sound is just amazing and i love it, i have it hooked up to my pc and use it for music and gaming. Playing music, i could definitely hear a big difference in quality between these and my old speakers, for games not all games have surround sound but still allows me to hear things i hadn't before. I would definitely recommend these for anyone who wants good speakers.
However the control panel backlight (the blue light) started flickering 2 weeks ago and finally died 2 days ago which is a huge bummer as i live on the first floor of my apartment and it is mainly underground. Even with my windows open the sunlight doesn't come through since there are bushes blocking my window, so i am mostly in the dark for most of the day. Searching online you can find others with the same backlight dying problem as me. I've had mine for less than 2 months before it started dying, if i spend 300 dollars i want a quality product.
Logitech support also SUCKS, they've been updating their email support service for at least 2 weeks now in the U.S and at least a month in the U.K. If you go on their support forums you will see many people complaining about the bad support. Not everyone can call for support during the times listed.
I have bought a G11 keyboard, G5 mouse, a racing wheel from logitech, X-140 laptop speakers and 3 headsets from logitech before buying the Z-5500 speakers, i have always liked the quality of their products but i have never had to get support for any of my items until now and considering the terrible customer support I might not buy anything from them again.

Their email support is finally back up, i have emailed them about my problem and am not waiting for their response which they say to expect a reply within 24 hours. It's getting close to 24 hours and still no response.

They got back within 20 hours with an automated message for me to send in my information for them to ship me a new control pod. We'll see how long it takes to get here.

They just got back to me with a response that they would give me an electronic return label within 4 days, it took them 9 days just to tell me that, and since i was dissatisfied with their customer service i said so, they replied by giving me survey link about how their customer care was and how it could be improved.
I am NOT happy with Logitech, their customer support gets a 2/10 for replying at least, but their promises of 24 hour replies is completely broken.

Best Speak for a PC of all time!Oct 08, 2009
It is a very versatile, very powerful, very decent quality set, for a pc or ps3 or other game console or even for a home theater.
Unless you are a pro and have thousands of dollars to spare, this is it.
Pro:
1.Digital interface. A digital decoder is a big plus. Since i use my laptop to drive it for most of the time (T61p through SPDIF inter face), i do not need a fancy sound card to fully appreciate this speaker.
2.Cheap,
3.Stylish design, depend on personal taste, but fit with my monitors (dell 2408w) and key boards well.
4.Powerful and tight low end,
Con:
1.med range is not enough.
2.no auto room calibration.
3.heavy. the sub woofer is big and very heavy.
Though i list a lot of cons, doesn't mean i hate it, i just want to be as neutral and objective as possible.
in a word, highly recommended to anyone.

I am strongly considering buying this system, based on the majority of the reviews I feel like I will be completely satisfied. One question tho for anybody to answer.. I see that it allows usage for PC, CD's, Mp3, and such but it says nothing about TV. Will this system hook up to my TV like my current Panasonic surround system? or do I need to by something in order to get surround from this system through my TV..

Great speakers! Superior sound from pc speakers. Ordered from J&R Music World through Amazon and would recommend J&R to anyone. Have made several purchases on car audio and home audio from them since the late 70's or early 80's to present and have never been disappointed with their products, shipping, or customer service. Also have ordered several products from Amazon and have been extremely please with them and the shipping times.
