good little routerOct 23, 2009 This is a good basic router for the SOHO network. Has all the basic functions and seems solid for the price. I have used one before and found it great for basic NAT/DHCP functionality in a home or small business wireless or wired network environment.
Not a hassle at allSep 28, 2009 I bought this router so I could connect two laptops to the Internet using Ethernet cables in multiple rooms. I might have considered Wi-Fi, but I'm too poor, and honestly, I'm too lazy to put forth the effort of figuring it out. Anyway, this Netgear router is really easy to install, unobtrusive after installation, and if you've used a router before at all, you don't have to learn anything new.
After popping in the installation CD, I had the router up and running in less than ten minutes. It spells everything out in plain English (or whatever language you choose). I had a router before that I had to unplug at least once every day because it would freeze, but since installation about a week ago, I haven't had to touch this router at all. If I want to take my laptop from the study to the living room, all I have to do is unplug the study's ethernet cable and plug in the living room's ethernet cable. Five seconds later, I'm back on the Internet. No restarts needed.
I'm really happy with this router so far. The only reason I give it four stars is because I've had it only a week. If it keeps working this well in a couple month's time and I have the option, I'll definitely return to give it five stars.
The router's even kind of cute, sitting there with its little legs . . .
Easy to doSep 12, 2009 Running 2 machines, 1 XP and 1 Vista 64, Both were plug and play with this router, no tweaking needed. Hooked it up, logged on, reset the password and it was done.
Complete piece of crap. avoid it !Aug 25, 2009 I had an older RP614V2 that was sacrificed to the lightning gods. I replaced it with a new RP614V4.
After much trouble caused by their idiotic choice of 192.168.1.1 as a base address ( where the normal default, and previous default, were 192.168.0.1 ), I got everything working again ( as 192.168.0.1 ).
This POS router drops all LAN side connections anywhere from once a day to once every ten minutes. The only thing that fixed it is a power cycle on the router.
The Indians at Tech Support are worthless. All they want to do is blame it on McAffee ( even after I told them McAffee is disabled for testing ).
Then the idiot help-desker told me he wants me to boot all the machines in 'safe mode with networking' and 'watch them for several days to see if it fails' .
Unreal. He claims this will disable McAffee - it does not. Also, of course, safe mode leaves you in 640 x 480 video mode ( he did not understand this ). I will purely be damned if I'm goign to spsend a day or more with my machines at 640 x 480, while I 'watch them to see fi the router F's up !!!
NEVER BUY NETGEAR PRODUCTS AGAIN !!1

Good device, horrible instructions and support.Jul 26, 2009 It was difficult getting the device set up with the poor instructions and poor technical support. In desperation I called Time-Warner Cable and asked their technical support - and they told me how to set up Netgear's product flawlessly, better than Netgear. And once it was set up the Time-Warner way it has worked flawlessly. Even after powering up and down our network a few times over the months it has never forgotten how it was set up and continues to work very well.
